Killing Time, why I had to write it.
I had been reading reports about the columbine kids and other kids with guns. I was horrified by the easy availability of guns. I also heard about kids trading guns for drugs in the U.K. to emulate their heroes from gangster rap videos. I researched articles from all over the globe and was appalled at what I read. I delved into articles on arms dealers and the arms trade. I had re-occurring disturbing vivid dreams about kids and guns. I decided to try and channel an arms dealer and an armed kid disillusioned with the world. It is not easy to describe how the lyrics came to me, I set the pen to paper and it flowed through me. Not all the songs I write happen this way but of the many that do “killing time” really disturbed me. When I finished writing the lyrics, I felt compelled to record the song. I wanted to convey the message in the lyric in such a way as to make the listener uncomfortable and to make people think. No one is without responsibility when a child has a gun.
From despair and grief to optimism, the subdued electronic compositions on the latest from Opus form a moving narrative. Bandcamp New & Notable Dec 3, 2023
As their names imply, the two new riddims from Jonny Reebok are stark and shadowy, made for long walks through deserted city streets. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 13, 2020
