Nigel R Mitchell of tunnelmental, John Napier of Ethyl Meatplow, E-Coli and Buccinator and Nial McGaughey of 3d House of Beef and Crippled Black Phoenix started a side project called Tea and Sympathy in the early 2000’s. They wrote and recorded 8 songs. John mixed some of the songs for release, Nigel was mixing others and Nial got busy creating brilliant music equipment for his company Hovercraft. Tea and Sympathy got together only a few times and were readying to play some shows but due to the commitments to their main projects it never materialized. They decided to put the project on the back burner for a while.
In an interview shortly after the sad death of John Napier in 2012, Nigel said he was not sure that the Tea and Sympathy songs would ever be released. However, I recently caught up with Nigel in his Los Angeles studio and this is what he told me. “I loved John and I honestly now believe he would be happy with the re-mastered mixes.” He added that after a recent phone conversation with Nial he too approved.
